In April 2019, I decided to embark on a journey. This journey involved me leaving law enforcement to pursue a career in education. I was blessed to be accepted into the CLIP program which is a teacher residency program. As a resident, I participated in 15-month accelerated graduate program in which after completion I will have earned my teacher certification and a Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T). What a year to begin a career in education, right? The best part of the CLIP program was that I had the privilege to be assigned a mentor teacher in a middle school in my community. I had the opportunity to co-teach with my mentor teacher everyday during the 2019-2020 world-wind of a school year. I kind of wish I would have taken this course during the spring semester of 2020. I would have been completely ready for distance learning with a plethora of technology tools to engage and enrich my 8th grade math students. I have truly enjoyed getting a chance to try out a lot of technology tools this semester. I think that this class is beneficial to all future teachers because we must integrate technology into all classrooms. With the Covid-19 pandemic, we were put on notice that we are severely lacking in the integration of technology into classrooms in the US. This course allows teachers an opportunity to freely interact with apps and tools to determine what your students would benefit from the most. In the end, their best interest are why we are here so why not incorporate things that interest them in the process? This journey has been filled with sleepless nights and stressed out days. Sometimes I didn't know the day of the week or the time of the day. There were times I was so overwhelmed with my residency I didn't think I could maintain my school work. Every time I wanted to throw in the towel I thought about this moment now, the final stretch. As I approach the finish line of my final semester, I am thankful for God's strength to persevere. I am leaving this program feeling prepared to effectively engage, elevate, and enrich my students learning. Trust the process! Anything worth having is worth working for!
