Multimedia is a combination of text, graphic, animation, audio, and video. There are six main elements in multimedia applications for educational purposes which are texts, images, audios, videos, animations and user control.
Multimedia empowers students to create and design representations created by others. It improves reflective thinking and also provides students with suitable learning resources according to their learning styles and abilities. Multimedia resources help different learners meet their learning needs. Multimedia tools such as blogs, social networks and wikis allow students to collaborate in their learning of a particular concept. Educators can engage students in several ways and even monitor their collaborations. Multimedia tools allow students to express their ideas and works in ways that garner attention of the audience. This teaches them the skills they need to develop an ability to communicate thoughts and concepts through a variety of resources, including text and recorded narrations. Teachers should allow more student choice in the software and tools to present their work. There are so many benefits and advantages to using multimedia in the classroom. Five of the benefits multimedia learning brings to the 21st century classroom are deeper understanding, improved problem solving, increased positive emotions, access to a vast variety of information, and world exploration. Teachers must aid their students in developing a critical lens when it comes to selecting and consuming quality multimedia. We can help our students develop their media literacy by our intentional selection and use of multimedia purposefully in the classroom. Don't consider it another thing you have to do. Take this as an opportunity to enhance your students education and add another tool to your teacher toolbox. REFERENCES Multimedia Tools in the Classroom Subscribe here to get more content like this!
