![]() Assessment through use of technology is a set of tools, which can truly add value to the learning experience, when used appropriately. Technology aids in tracking and assessing my students' performance in the classroom. I check my students' understanding, get feedback on student learning, and use that information to scaffold my instruction to ensure all students achieve academic success. I am able to do all of this through formative assessments online. It is important that I know what my students understand and don’t understand so that I am able to adjust my instruction to meet students at their level. Some of the best evaluation and assessment tools also help students self-reflect and assess. It is so imperative that our students understand where they are in their learning process and what they need to achieve their learning goals. A great technology tool for evaluation and assessment is Socrative. This is an interactive web-based student-response system that can help teachers provoke discourse and learning through polls and quizzes. This is a great way for teachers to monitor students' understanding of a concept and adjust instruction like I stated earlier. I have noticed my students like the instant feedback. When I use this app I adjust my settings so that students can only see percentages on the screen. Students are not able to view individual responses of their peers. This is a great tool to use when you have those students who are afraid to speak up in class. They have the opportunity to respond anonymously and as a teacher you have the opportunity to provide tailored feedback. I love to do checkpoints throughout the lesson to check for understanding. You can measure student learning with printable reports, but you will have to put in some work to combine all the reports for a particular student into one report. Despite that, Socrative is a great tool because it allows you to assess learning at any point in a lesson. There is so much freedom for how teachers can structure their quizzes or polls because the tool has the capability to align each question to a Common Core standard.
